5/5. Would recommend.
I would always walk by this place but I never really got a chance to try the food until recently. I am not a vegetarian and had my doubts on whether I would enjoy this place, but I am very impressed. The food tastes amazing and is just the right amount to fill you up. "Homemade and healthy goodness" is how I would sum this place up.
So far, I've tried the curry dish with TVP (soya protein), the roti with TVP, and the corn soup. My fav of all these is definitely the curry and the corn soup. The corn soup is the perfect mix of veggies and pairs perfectly with any of the dishes they serve. $5 for a small serving of the soup is a little steep, but I definitely recommend you try the soup at least once - it's the restaurant specialty and is highly recommended by the regulars and restaurant reviews. I surprisingly really like the soya protein in the meals and is my go-to for any of the dishes.
Other than the food, the owners are super nice, chill, and hospitable. The place is a little small and only has a community style table with about 6-8 seats for the customers. You can definitely enjoy the food, strike up a conversation with a friendly stranger, and maybe make a new friend here.
Oh and this place is CASH ONLY.. -

So.. they say they're open at 11 but in the end it was 11:30. Why don't they just change the times if they want to open at 11:30 instead? That's why I'm taking off a star.
Another star is that they have NO BATHROOMS. You need to go to the Pizza place up on the corner of Bathurst and Bloor. WTF.
The women weren't very friendly to be honest. Surprising because they must be the owners but.. listen, a smile goes a long way. That didn't help. Third star gone.
Now for the fourth star, the food was actually pretty boring. I was expecting amazing Caribbean flavours exploding in my mouth and being just blown away but it was okay. Mediocre.
The curry everyone raves about is really boring. Rice, beans, and I asked for TVP (fake meat protein) but they served me chickpeas instead.
The salad was 3 pieces of lettuce dressed on the side, and the ONLY highlight of the meal were the plantains which added a nice sweet texture.
The large carrot soup everyone loved was also pretty gross. I couldn't eat it all, it was watery, flavourless and the chickpeas inside were raw. It was served inside TWO disposable drinking cups. Another WTF.
It had a strange corn starch (??) aftertaste I was not a fan of either. A chemical after taste, not sure if it was corn starch but it was very odd.
Lastly, you eat there but everything is in disposable cups and plates because I guess they don't want to do dishes (or clean bathrooms for their customers apparently). This is unacceptable for me because I really try to limit waste but there is no way to do so if everything is disposable.
Will never EVER recommend nor come back. What a waste of $25.
Sorely disappointed. -

Rather bland foods, though colourful - can benefit with a self-serve option of sea salt and pepper (and a whole lit of that needed love) on the side.

The food hasn't been as good on the last few visits and the workers were rude to us both times. We've since discovered Veggie D'light in Kensington which was in all ways superior. Check them out instead. (But still get the corn soup if you see One Love at a festival. That's generally worth eating.)

One Love is definitely made with love! We came here on a trip to Toronto and sorely needed some healthy comfort food after going out to lots of restaurants with heavy rich foods. We consider ourselves flexitarians (omnivores) and I didn't miss the meat at all. We had the chickpea potato roti which had a lot of whole wheat roti at the bottom, and it was so tasty I couldn't stop eating it even after I was stuffed. My partner thought my BBQ tofu wasn't going to beat his roti until he tried it! That dish was the perfect balance of interesting, delicious, comfort and healthy -- I could see myself coming here after work for dinner if I lived here. Hot sauce was awesome too.
The staff are chill and friendly, the front counter/cash person struck up a conversation with us after she found out we were visiting. Maybe some other reviewers thought they were rude because they're expecting peppy Western style service, but I felt at home because generally Chinese service is more straightforward and genuine too. Liked the beautiful communal table. Only downside is no bathrooms, but that's something we found was common in Toronto of smaller places.
Would definitely come back next time we're visiting and craving some healthy Caribbean comfort food.
